Why There?

I was in the mood for a something fancy and close to a movie theater and stumbled upon this little gem of a Groupon along with an extra $10 off so it was pretty much destiny to eat here. SO nice to eat some amazing food and walk to a movie.

Now the Review:

The first thing I noticed upon arrival was how posh the restaurant was, I really felt like it was walking in to a different world right off the street. They were extremely accommodating right off the bat.

The hostess pretty much just let us choose our table that we thought would best fit our needs (away from people due to me taking pictures and big NOT the small two person tables).

I saw the Castle Creek Pinot Nior on the menu, the same one from Tiburon and I wanted it SOOO bad. I decided I we needed to try a different one so I asked the waitress if there was one that resembled it, she really had no idea and said she would ask. Probably a good 15 minutes later she arrived back saying she could not find one so I just asked what was popular. We ended up with TrapicheMalbec 2012. It was extremely good and we both thought it was very drinkable.

Since the head chef is the same one from Tiburon a lot of the food resembled each other. The butter with the bread was spicier than Tiburon’s, it was a nice flavor change.

For the appetizers we chose the Steamed Clams with spicy sausage, white wine, butter, and herbs and the Cheese & Company with assorted cheeses, dry salami, onion jam, and grapes. I was a little weary of clams because I have not had any I liked before but these were pretty good. I thought the sausage overwhelmed the clams a little bit but when eating them separate they were a little plain. What was actually really awesome was dipping the bread in the clam sauce, so good. As for the cheese I was super excited, I am always down for some new cheeses. I thought the Brie was a little too strong but my husband loved it. My favorite was the Goat which was rolled in pepper. Surprisingly my husband thought it was way to peppery and I usually hate pepper but I thought it was absolutely amazing. The onion jam was sort of weird, did not like it. I would have much rather had a fruit and jalapeño jam and some crackers.

Our pallet cleanser was lemon boysenberry sorbet, it was super sour and I absolutely LOVED it!! Desert on its own I swear.

Our entrees arrived; I got the Hawaiian Mahi Mahi, Meyer Lemon Beurre Blanc, Crab Salad, Creamy Mashed Potatoes. This meal was amazing; I never am able to eat my entire meal because I fill up on everything that comes before. This time I loved it so much I ate the ENTIRE thing. It was just so fresh and clean tasting. Again, like at Tiburon the beets were just not good but if that is the only thing I could complain about my meal was a home run.

My husband’s entrée was the New Zealand Rack of Lamb White Wine & Dijon Reduction with Blueberry/Mint Chutney, Roasted Yukon Golds.

When it was time for us to order desert we could not let go how good the Creme’ Brule was at Tiburon so we just HAD to go for it again. The Tahitian Vanilla Bean, Hint of High West Rye was just as good as the one at Tiburon. At this point I was beyond stuffed but I had to have a few bites of this decadent desert.

We had some time before our movie so we got some after dinner drinks, it is always nice to have time for that.

The Verdict:

I have to say this meal was pretty much as good as the one at Tiburon but it was cheaper and close to the movie theatre so in the end I would rather go to the Wild Rose. The setting inside was amazing and peaceful, Tiburon had a great outdoor option but we mostly like to eat indoors and not much can beat the Wild Rose atmosphere. I will definitely return here.

We went to see Maleficent and I thought it was great but my husband not so much. It reminded me of Once Upon a Time on TV, taking a beloved story and giving it a little twist, very fun.
